There's a new champion at Scotland's beloved Corgi Derby this Easter weekend! Juno, a spirited four-year-old, dashed her way to victory, beating last year's winner, Rodney. With Daisy proudly securing third place, every dog who participated deserves some yummy snacks for their efforts.

Held at the charming Musselburgh Racecourse, the Derby saw 16 adorable Corgis race their hearts out over a distance of 230 feet. The event was brightened by the presence of tennis coach Judy Murray, who had the delightful role of starting the race.

The Corgi Derby has been a cherished Easter tradition here since it began in 2022. This year, even Chester Barkington traveled nearly 200 miles from Yorkshire to join the fun.

Juno's dedicated owners, Frances Brandon and Alasdair Tew, shared that her secret to success might just be her enthusiastic chases after the seagulls on Edinburgh’s Portobello Beach. Last year, Juno came in ninth place, but this year, her playful training approach really shone through. "Juno loves a good treat," laughed Tew, "and maybe that's what drove her to victory. We can't wait to return next year!"

As Juno received her prize of delightful doggy toys and treats, Judy Murray reminisced about the playful chaos of the race. “Some dogs dash off, some hesitate, and others go on their own adventures. It’s a delightful, unpredictable spectacle that never fails to bring joy,” she remarked.

Aisling Johnston, from Musselburgh Racecourse, celebrated Juno's win and praised all the corgis and their owners for a day so full of joy and laughter.

This race first kicked off in honor of Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee. The queen's love for Corgis is well-known, having always had at least one from 1933 until her passing in 2022. Her dogs, Muick and Sandy, found a loving home with Prince Andrew and Sarah, Duchess of York. Meanwhile, Queen Camilla and King Charles III recently welcomed a rescue puppy, Moley, expanding the royal family’s circle of love and care for animals.

As we celebrate these joyous moments, remember to cherish your furry friends who add endless love and joy to our lives. If you’re looking to experience such warmth and companionship, consider adopting a pet. They might just bring you a lifetime of happiness! 🐾
