A Tale of a Cat with a Mighty Tail
Cats come in all sorts of shapes and sizes, and their tails are no different! Usually, a cat’s tail is about eight to 12 inches long. But some special kitties have tails that are much, much longer.
One of these special cats is Mr. Pugsley Addams, a cute gray Maine Coon from Mound, Minnesota. He is now famous for having the longest cat tail in the world! His tail is a whopping 18.5 inches long—imagine that! Guinness World Records has given him the title, and we think he deserves a mountain of his favorite treats to celebrate.
Pugsley lives with the Cameron family and their three other furry Maine Coon pals. From the start, Pugsley had a tail that grabbed attention. When Amanda, his mom, first took him to the vet, both she and the vet were amazed by how long it was. Amanda says, "The vet couldn’t believe his eyes. I took one good look at it and thought, ‘Wow, that really is something!’"
After his tail continued to surprise everyone at a later vet visit, Amanda's kids thought it would be fun to see if Pugsley’s tail could set a world record. To their amazement, it did!
Pugsley isn’t just known for his long tail. This playful kitty enjoys a life filled with eating, asking for treats, taking cozy naps, and playing fetch. Amanda describes him as a cheeky yet friendly cat. People always want to meet him, and they quickly fall in love with his gentle nature. He’s soft, always purring, and handles new experiences like a champ. When out and about, folks even call him a "local celebrity"!
Maine Coons, Pugsley’s breed, are usually the biggest house cats. They take four or five years to grow fully, and their big, fluffy tails are perfect for sitting on or keeping warm! Before Pugsley, Altair, another Maine Coon from Michigan, had the tail-length record at 16.07 inches. Altair got the title from his older brother, Cygnus, who, sadly, passed away in a house fire. Before Pugsley, Cygnus held the record for the longest tail ever.
